The number of aspiring entrepreneurs grows daily for numerous reasons, you often hear people say things like you don’t need school, most successful entrepreneurs dropped out. Although it is not a lie, people find every possible formula based on a multitude of conversations and concepts picked up by the very few that made it. What most people don’t tell you is how to distinguish the vital parts of actually building that success, you’ve probably seen on social pages steps like, build a brand then sell = success. Well, let’s break it down.
Marketing is one of the most vital parts of any business, brand or personal image in society, so big that its phases blends into many other parts of the business such as sales. Marketing is merely the sharing of awareness, the drive of attraction to a person, place or thing. With marketing having various forms and phases it requires some of the most strategic planning as it can directly or indirectly affect your brand and or sales. The many faces of marketing include but are not limited to the internet, word of mouth, advertising, research and products, each playing a pivotal role in building a brand, acquiring leads and making a sale.
Sales being one of the most common ways people and businesses can damage a perfect marketing campaign, rushing into a sale without proper marketing can cause a quick decrease in sales and have a negative impact on any brand. Acquiring sales is typically the primary goal for most businesses and developing entrepreneurs. Being that it is foreseen as the only way to create a revenue stream, people often jump in and use the law of average as a guide to securing production and profitability. In a world full of sellers everyone races to the next prospective buyer in hopes of gaining a new customer or client. Sales, however, is not necessarily reliant on who is first to the buyer, but more so who has a better reputation, provides the higher value and most importantly meets the needs of the person being presented to.
I attended a networking event for entrepreneurs and was surprised to see how many people were trying to sell in a room full of salesmen. Every interaction with a person should not be viewed as an opportunity to sell, but as an opportunity to market, build awareness, identify the needs and create new business relationships. Marketing is a never-ending process that requires time and attention to detail. By properly strategizing your marketing plan you will be able to effectively weigh out the laws of average, increasing your ability to close deals and make sales. Selling too aggressively oftentimes results in the lack of trust due to the eagerness displaying a perception of greed or desperation. 7 out of 10 sales are often made by people who are familiar or comfortable with a brand, 2 out of 10 sales typically are referral based and 1 out of 10 is acquired through the laws of average.
